Review of The Class (2007) by Aleksei E — 05 Apr 2009
Interesting movie in a cinema-verité style about a multicultural french class. The movie limits itself to telling what happens "inside the walls" (entre les murs) of the school, and this coupled with the good performances (specially from Francois Begaudeau, main character and the writer of the novel the movie is based on) gives a realistic documentary-like view.
Also, the movie is not told in simple black & white terms, and the characters are portrayed in realistic shades of gray. There a couple of too self-conscious moments, but overall this is a solid movie.
