Review of The Class (2007) by Emiliano R — 15 Apr 2009
The Class is class. God, who would be a teacher?!!! It's a French film about a class of multicultural students and their French teacher. Don't expect Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society or Gangsta's Paradise! It's very realistic, and nothing is saccharined up.
It won the Palme Dor at Cannes last year and it's easy to see why. So many films have been set in schools and classrooms, you'd imagine that there was nothing new that could be found. But this one, in which not an awful lot happens other than a teacher trying to get his class to settle down and learn, makes you look anew at the whole thing from both the teacher and pupil's points of view.
