Review of The Claim (2000) by Mec R — 24 Mar 2008
The acting was very, very good; of course Polley was her usual subtle, sad, pretty self. The rest were equally tragic. The palette of the film was as bleak as the subject, and understandably so; the only thing that had any color at all was gold, with everything else appearing pale or even out of focus.
Fire and blood even looked washed-out. Thus, beautiful film to watch, but it loses points in my opinion for the execution of the ending. Bentley waxes philosophical at the wrong time, and Polley is altogether too disaffected, all things considered.
