Review of The Circle (2017) by Shellie K — 27 Apr 2017
This movie was awful. I am usually merciful when it comes to book to movie conversions knowing that they will always be different but the message conveyed in the book was not only quashed by the movie, it was reinvented.
The social commentary of the book conveyed a message of how dangerous this type of society can be and how we should be cautious to embrace such a life. The movie just aimed at getting a "happy ending" out there to the audience.
The Mae Holland of the book was the complete opposite of the Mae Holland in the movie. And the movie gave away the biggest plot twist less than hour into it!!! I highly recommend the book because of what it is, but I strongly urge viewers to stay away from the movie.
It was so horrendously inaccurate that I found it incredibly unforgivable. I am actually in shock that Dave Eggers (the author) co-wrote the screenplay. If this was my work, I would never have signed the rights over let alone recreated a totally different plot.
A complete waste of money to see this film.
