Review of The Circle (2017) by Michael C — 27 Apr 2017

Terrible. One of the worst movies of 2017. I thought this movie might work because I enjoyed Dave Eggers' novel (It's not a great book, but I think it was well written and it did have some good ideas about today's society.

) and Eggers himself co-wrote the screen adaptation for this movie. While I wasn't head over heals to see it, I thought it might be worth seeing because it has a very good cast and as I said I think the novel had some good points to make.

However when the movie was over I found myself terribly disappointed. The movie was overloaded with dialogue. There were too many scenes of these boring and terribly uninteresting lectures/product exhibitions.

I also was bothered by how all of the employees of The Circle act like robots. They cheer in unison at the stupid lectures and don't seem to have thoughts of their own. The ending of Egger's novel is changed significantly for this movie.

Also some interesting characters in the novel are eliminated entirely. It's no mystery why this movie was not screened for critics in advance. Do not make the mistake I did in seeing this worthless piece of trash.

If you want to see a terrific movie about how technology is way too integrated in our lives see 1998's "The Truman Show".
