I think the folks who didn't like this picture probably saw to much of their own lives in it. That is they're hooked on social media and people often don't like looking at their reflection.
It may not have been the usual Tom Hanks role, but I think he, like the movie wanted to start a dialect and have us look at both sides of "transparency "; this I think was done very well by two fantastic actors.
The film did not provide us with a "canned answer" but as with Emma Watson's character left it open for discussion, much like Tom Hanks in the final scene of Castaway...did he go after the "Angel Winged Lady" or not?
