Review of The Circle (2017) by Danny H — 25 Jul 2017
The critical consensus may be 'Aimless' - But I disagree.
This is poetic, exploratory and nuanced take, offered up in bitesize, delightfully modern chunks, each made rich by Watson's most convincing role to date. Oswalt is hateful with only monologue and Hanks is used sparingly, but packs his regular punch. It's like Her mixed with iZombie and loved it as a 20 year old that could see the world he's living in through the stained glass of the dystopia. Only critique would be that Boyega may have played it over anxious - he's a sweet guy, but he needs to recognise his own effortless power and not let it be reduced by nervous energy. Still love him, of course and Watson carries off anyway. Worth watching!
