Review of The Cider House Rules (1999) by Rainer K — 29 Nov 2011
My rating of 10 out of 10 suggests that I really enjoyed this film and I did enjoy Tobey's role as an orphan who is brought up and trained in the skills of a doctor only to leave when a couple shows up to have an abortion.
He travels with them, obtains a job with the man's family farm, then once the man has shipped off to war he spends time with the man's girlfriend/fiance (who encourages the romance). The man returns a cripple and so his girlfriend appears prepared to stand by him. I also enjoyed Michael Caine's portrayal in the role of the doctor in the orphanage.
Not a particularly moral film, given the infidelity of the two main characters plus the revelation that a farmhand is having an incestuous relationship with his daughter. 10 out of 10.
