Review of The Chumscrubber (2005) by Hi H — 09 Jan 2008
Post "Donnie Darko" indie atempting band waggon jumping is to be expected after hits like "Brick". But this one fails to impress. Its storyline feels like a drugged up coupling of both desperate housewives and clueless a combination hardly destined to give you the goose bumps of the films forefathers ("Donnie Darko" et al) and more likely to make you break into a cold sweat.
Indie props but dissapointing results. Try as he might Arie Posin creates a film that teaters on the darker side of average.
The clished characters have been on our screens for so long now they fail to intrest. from the cool, hot girl who unexpicably cares for the geek to the bully who doesnt even look like he could beat up the boy he kidnapped let alone our semi-buff "hero.".
Verdict: Watch "Brick," hell even watch "thumbsucker" before you watch "Chumscrubber." If you have to watch it fast forward till the scilent scream scene read a synopsis and then tell people you have seen it.
