Review of The Chumscrubber (2005) by Katy T — 30 Nov 2008
Interesting, twisted take on Suburbia. Film ties together several rather disparate narrative strands and is on the verge of having them come together beautifully, when the film seems to chicken out a bit from a more grim ending.
In its place there is a happy ending that doesn't quite resolve the narrative tension of the previous 90 minutes. Still, those 90 minutes are especially effective, even if the videogame/narration doesn't quite add up.
Props to Billy Elliot, Carrie Ann Moss (when did she become a MILF) and Camilla Bele. The rest of the cast is uniformly excellent. Actually much of the film seemed more suited to a more relaxed pacing, sort of like Desperate Housewives (the good first season) meets the Sopranos.
