Review of The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury (2004) by Glenn B — 21 Jun 2008
Peter Chung's style is perhaps an acquired taste, and as some reviewers have pointed out the extremity of the style in this 35 minute animated "bridge" between the live bookends of the "Riddick" series varies to a strange degree: the bodies are more naturalistically rendered toward the beginning and get more "Aeon Flux"y toward the end. Strange.
It's not a bad feature. The highlight for me is Riddick's encounter with some gloriously odd, tentacled aliens. This particular scene would probably have been unconvincing as live action, because the aliens are so ... well, alien.
Worth giving a try if you like the "Riddick" films. It is worth noting that the Riddick character is much more given to one-liners here than he is in the films.
