Review of The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) by Casey S — 02 Sep 2010
I want to just write "Fuck off" as my review but the film bothers me too much. I just don't understand what they were thinking... this film is the equivelent of taking a character like Snake Pliskin (who Riddick had the potential to take over from) and putting him into a sub-Star Wars/Lord of the Rings mash-up sci-fi fantasy, hiring a Stargate fan-fiction writer to write the script, giving it some terrible production design, hiring a 15 year old to do the cgi on his pentium 2 pc and then telling everyone to act it with a wink to the camera every 5 minutes.
The theatrical version is bad, but the directors cut is even worse, all the fantasy aspects that didn't feel right in the theatrical cut are amped up to even more stupid degrees... what an absolute bag of shite.
I remember reading that whilst they were writing the script, David Twohy and Vin Diesel spent their spare time playing Dungeons and Dragons... maybe they should have spent that time going over the script.
Piss.
