Review of The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) by Lyndon G — 02 Feb 2010
I didn't hate this movie. Nothing like that. I was just very disappointed. Based on Pitch Black, I expected a B-movie sci-fi adventure with some cool ideas. There might have been a few cool ideas, but they felt cheap to me, as if they'd been cut out of magazines and laminated onto gray construction paper.
It's worst when you can see the intended effect and you just can't feel it, because you don't think it's as cool as they think it is, or even worse, when they go for the least cool and most superficial part of something like the Roman Empire.
And you're thinking, damnit, the Roman Empire was amazingly cool, how could you blow that?
