Finally seen the Director's Cut which does serve to improve the overall film and make it less of a total bombsite.
Completely abandoning the ensemble elements of Pitch Black along with the establised 'universe' - Chronicles exists specifically to attempt the creation of a new franchise based on mythology unheard of in the previous film.
It also exists to allow Vin Diesel ample space to pose like a tit and growl disapprovingly.
Oh and the CGI has not aged well at ALL.
