Review of The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) by Christopher B — 23 May 2011

It's nice to see that audiences appreciate this film more than critics. The most negative comments regarding this film are always based on the principle that it is too much of a diversion from the first, people seem to react strongly to these differences in particular, it's grand visual appearance and the switch from scifi horror to scifi adventure. Pitch Black followed a few characters, isolated and alone, one of these characters was riddick. With chronicles Twohy has taken the most intriguing character from pitch black and decided to explore the grander universe in which he resides.

We see this with the first sequel to Alien and also Mad max, yet these are not considered inferior or strange for making such an apparent diversion, many consider them superior in fact. Twohy has had the ingenuity and guts to create a textured and detailed universe from scratch, personally I cannot wait for the third, "Dead man stalking" ;).
