Review of The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) by Marty B — 03 Apr 2013
I actually find the character of Riddick and Vin Diesel's performance enjoyable to watch. It's easy to dismiss him as a one-note actor, but remember his performance in Saving Private Ryan? His stoic performance as Riddick is a choice, and it's a choice that I like.
Here we have an honest-to-goodness anti-hero who is tactically smart, and whose only weakness is caring for those weaker than he. Yes, the pacing could have been improved, but the methodical way the film moves from planet to planet combines the feel of a Bond movie with that of Blade Runner.
The universe that is revealed in this movie is one that could feature a lot of future adventures.
