Review of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) by Cole V — 05 Apr 2012
I really liked this movie!
It was only a couple of flaws away from me full out loving it. The entrance into the dark island should've been more threatening. The mist didn't do anything more to them than give bad dreams, which ice cream also does, and turn one of them into flying, fire-breathing awesomeness.
One didn't get the sense of the mission (saving the mother and those who had been engulfed earlier). Everything always turned out well, so you didn't feel all that threatened. I don't mind everything turning out. But a greater threat has to be established. We have to be really worried that THIS time it won't, and that wasn't created as well as it could've been. I think CGI detracts from the reality of the threats as well. It's just too cartoonish.
That aside, it was a splendid story, with great interaction & adventure. I really am pained when something that had potential for greatness just slightly falls short. Only toward the climax did it begin to drift a little. Eustace was excellently portrayed!
