Review of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) by Francisco L — 18 Aug 2018
After Prince Caspian which I felt was much better than book fans made it out to be, it was only natural that it was going to be a tough act to follow in my eyes. The movie has impressive production values, good special effects except for a dragon that looked like it was poorly Photoshopped in (though he gets better as time goes by) and a decent sense of adventure.
Yet the movie feels weirdly episodic in a way. Place in Narnia, on a ship, place in Narnia, on a ship and so on. The story itself is also quite cliched and Eustace is annoying for the first half of the film and even if that was the point it seems to have worked too well.
At least he goes through decent character development. The ending was also quite poignant. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is competently made but maybe they should've kept Andrew Adamson as the director.
