Review of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) by Jenn J — 03 Jan 2012
The chronicles of Narnia is back and this time a sequels proves superior then the first. The film picks up a short time after the first, the original four children are sent hurtling back into the world they had left after ruling an entire life time.
They find that the once beautiful kingdom of Narnia lays in ruin and enslavement. Humans have worked to nearly exterminate all narnians (any species other then human) but have not quite finished the job.
Prince caspian, whom the film is titled, is the heir to the throne of Narnia, but escapes after an attempt by his evil uncle on his life is made. The four children find themselves in partnership with Caspian as the work to rescues the dwindling Narnians and restore peace to their world.
Prince Caspian gathers everything we loved about the first and leaves what we didn't. There is enough refresher on the the backstory that the audience can enjoy this film without seeing the prior, yet doesn't clog the fast paced movement.
The action scenes are simply jaw dropping, and the terrific visual and creature effects done by WETA studios are top notch and worthy of the story they bring to life. If this installment is any notion of the direction the series is going, I look forward to the next one immensely.
