Review of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) by Noel V — 26 Apr 2012
Not too bad. Darker and actually more emotionally profound than the first pic, which is essentially a children's fantasy just a few steps beyond the grade school playground. This time the threat is purely human, even extraracial, and the question of race is (to these eyes, anyway) handled with some tact (the baddies have foreign accents, but so does the eponymous protagonist).
Nice fight choreography for the most part, and I see an actual grasp of medieval battle tech and strategy (for the record, I think the kids should have lost, big time). If I don't like anything, it's the smartened-up dialogue (kids don't think or talk that way in the '40s) and reliance on Lord of the Rings imagery.
Narnia should be better than that, to emulate Peter Jackson's overrated epic.
