Review of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) by Katherine P — 09 Apr 2011
I am not going to say this was better than The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Because it was not. What I will say, on the other hand, is that it is not better either. What I mean is that this lived up to the superbness of the first but did not manage to surpass it.
Like the first, this story was deep but it carried the same message overall (to overcome evil and fight for your rights/beliefs). The deep story plot was completely repetitive. It almost made me lower this to 70%, but luckily the skin deep story was absolutely brilliant.
What I love about this Narnia franchise is the fact they are making the films less fast-paced and more imaginative. What I never understood about the books was the fact they all had a swing of the sword on one page and the battle was over.
But the battle in this film was completely brilliant. There was no fast-paced action but the story never dwelt on one thing for too long either. The acting in it was much better too. Improvement is extremely noticeable in Georgie Henley and the other three main characters too.
Ben Barnes could act really well from the start which pleased me very much. The myth and mystery has not left the film either and it still carries the same mystical aura to it. The villain is convincing again, portrayed by Sergio Castellito who is only really recognised for this film.
But he was indeed very good at the role he had been cast with and I say without doubt that he will always be a memorable character for me in this franchise.
