Review of The Christmas Shoes (2002) by Tiffany H — 19 Jun 2008
This is a wonderful movie. The main story concerns a boy who discovers that his mom has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and that, unless a heart donor is found soon, she will die. One day, he overhears her talking about a pair of shoes she once had. One day, he finds a similar pair and decides he wants to give them to her for what may be her last Christmas present. Unfortunately, he doesn't quite have enough money. Along comes a lawyer who is so wrapped up in his work, that he has become self-centered. At first, the lawyer is unsympathetic towards the kid. But, over time, he learns that it's not all about him.
I loved this movie. Sure, it's predictable. But, in this case, that's not a bad thing. The acting was superb, especially from the 'dying mom'. She demonstrates that, even in the face of horrible news, one can be courageous and have a sense of humor. I can't wait until they rerun it. I wouldn't miss it, and you shouldn't either.
