Review of The China Syndrome (1979) by Daniel M — 22 Aug 2007
I just saw this movie of TCM, and what a movie! Jack Lemmon, Jane Fonda, and Michael Douglas take on the potential danger of muclear energy and its risks while battling corporate and its desire to cover up the truth about a bad day at a nuclear power facility.
Interestingly enough, not long after this film was released, a similar circumstance took place on Three Mile Island. Parts of this film will remind you of Network, but it by no means is like Network in any way, shape, or form.
Jane Fonda delivers as a woman reporter sick of doing light work and does something heavy when it comes to exposing this cover-up. Michael Douglas plays her independent film-making cameraman who challenges her to ante-up her abilities as a newsreporter amidst dealing with corporate, and Jack Lemmon plays a shift operator who knows the truth but has trouble getting people to believe it is true.
One of the best films of the 70s.
