Review of The China Syndrome (1979) by Sol H — 14 Jun 2009
Another Great 70s thriller packed with exciting moments and strong performances from the main leads.
Lemmon is on top form as the nuclear plant worker ,whos quest for the truth after an accident at the plant opens up a large can of Worms which ensnares Fonda and Douglas (Both Excellent).
The whole film presents a what if? scenario and carries it off brilliantly.
Bridges shows how corperate smmokscreens are thrown up in order to save money and when that fails then dirty tricks are the order of the day.
One could say the film is a disaster movie with an offscreen or implied disaster ,but rather than giving us spectacle,we are given dials and computers to show a disaster has occured.
Another film which shows the 70s were a bench mark for clever thrillers which made you think as well as enjoy them.
