Ultimately the opposite of the inspiring historical epic it purports to be, but it's not without some good, moving moments, and why oh why does there always need to be a love story (a weak one at that) chucked in for good measure? Still, the stunning cinematography and the good cast (especially the kids) give the film some saving grace.
Not bad for an Aussie-Chinese production though.
