Review of The Children of Huang Shi (2008) by Private U — 09 May 2009
Three Stars is the sure rating, a lot of this is because XiaoDong Zhao captured just the right sentiments as the director of photography here. (Title of this movie in Asia's "Escape from Huang Shi") The ensemble carried their roles well and through ample interactions among them the story unfolds under the backdrop of the Civil War in China and Japanese invasion.
Radha Mitchell and Chow Yun Fat are two big scene stealers, although none of them can execute the teary eyes better than Jonathan Rhys Meyers in a wide-range of emotional scenes in this film. Michelle Yeoh carried her weigh with enough restraints in her character.
Story has a jumpy start but the detailed description flows through nicely midway till the end.
