Review of The Changeling (1980) by John E — 15 Mar 2011
A perfectly paced horror thriller in the vein of The Omen that deals with a child as the supernatural element in the story. The Changeling was understandably overshadowed by the superior The Shining in the same year, but this movie also demands one's attention.
George C. Scott, as can be expected, does a little yelling, shows a lot of intensity, and steals the show. Kids always creep me out, so I was always on edge while watching this movie. I daresay it was scarier than The Omen, but both had similar strengths: a strong male lead, chilling music, a great construction of a creepy atmosphere and an unbearably gradual rise in tension.
It's a pity more people haven't heard of this movie, cause it's a good 'un.
