Review of The Change-Up (2011) by Timothy S — 19 Mar 2012
This is a movie that takes a Freaky Friday concept and changes it for a guy's point of view. The movie is about two men who soon switch bodies after peeing in a magical fountain (don't ask). Soon the two are living different lives and the two are completely different. One is a loyal husband, a good gentlemen. His friend though is a jerk who will tap anything in sight. How will these two get used to a completely different life style?
Pros- The acting is good Ryan and Jason do great with their roles as they play themselves and their opposites well. There are some good jokes that work out well and the film can share good touching moments. The 2nd part of the film starts to fix what goes wrong in the 1st part, but some of the 1st still carries in the film. Characters are nice as some are believable at moments.
Cons- The 1st part of the film is absolutely crap! The very first scene we get is a baby S$^#ing in the father's mouth! There are too many poo and sex jokes in this movie and it gets in the way of good moments at times. Sometimes those jokes can pop out of nowhere and ruin a scene that was doing good. There are even over the top moments that make no sense at all! With the babies one of them starts to throw knives! Its so weird to have the 1st part of the movie over the top with stupid jokes and sex appeal then going into touching moments.
Overall- The beginning of the film is some of the worst I have seen, but at least the movie can progress through that. There are good times in this film if you can get through the 1st part. If the sex appeal and S$#& were taken out this could have been a much better movie.
