Review of The Change-Up (2011) by Jun M — 01 Jul 2012
Granted it wasn't the greatest comedy, but I still got some good laughs out of it. It's still better than a lot of the other "comedies" that have been coming out in recent years. I thought a few scenes and jokes were a bit too crude, and didn't really have to be in the film. It was an interesting take on the body-switch concept. If I had to describe it to someone who's never heard of it, I'd refer to it as "the crude, R-rated bro version of 'Freaky Friday.'" It really does get you thinking about "what-if" scenarios and makes you ponder about how you would go about handling the situation the main characters found themselves in. Also, Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman were an excellent comedy duo. They played their respective parts very well, and were convincing as playboy and responsible dad.
I'm glad I didn't pay to see it at a theater because it isn't worth the $12. However, if you have free time this summer, have access to it for free, and are looking for a decent comedy to kill time with, then check this movie out!
