Review of The Change-Up (2011) by Steve B — 24 Jul 2012
Over the years I've seen great, attempted and similar movies that have 'switched identies' within the plot, one of which was 'Vice Versa'. A modern day version of that kind of theme featuring two main lead actors I wasn't too familiar with at the current time.
Two friends of course who are completely different in character, personality and life values. After a heavy drinking night the two have a heart to heart and envy each other's lives, one has the free and easy style and the other all settled, love and family.
After relieving themselves in a fountain and causing a city wide black out they emerge the next morning as each other. What I found quite interesting in this movie was the way that they both discover each other's better sides and qualities as well as the worst parts of each other and learn from the revelations to make themselves better people.
A nicely linked and connected story. Plenty of amusing scenarios as each of them has to continue each other's lives and schedules. Surprising and shocking scenes which more than likely may be cut by the BBFC for future British TV was with the babies and how they were being 'handled' and 'picked-up', playing with blenders and throwing knives, headbanging a cot and poo firing in a mouth even! Yeah pretty close to the bone but depending on who you are very funny indeed and made a lasting impression.
