Review of The Cell (2000) by Elaine M — 05 Mar 2009
A psychotherapist who has begun experimenting with a new technology whereby she can journey inside her patients' minds, is asked to enter the mind of serial killer Carl Stargher who has fallen into a coma, but is the only one who knows the whereabout of his latest victim, who is 40 hours from death.
Although I'm a Lopez fan, Vincent D'onofrio is the only one that gives a standout performance here, and he's also the only one with a standout character. Everything else is pretty unmemorable, even though the premise had real potential.
The plot is very focussed, there are no subplots or background to any of the characters, which actually makes it a little boring, and the visuals are pretty, but don't really have any reasoning. The best part was the beginning where you get to see the killer in action, which really is not what the movie is supposed to be about, so there isn't much of it.
Alright wannabe 'SOTL' sci-fi drama/thriller, that I probably won't see again...
