Review of The Cell (2000) by Jake M — 30 Nov 2013
As a story its pretty much a shallow rip off of other films namely A Nightmare on Elm Street, Silence of the Lambs, and Lawnmower Man. The performances from the entire cast are solid with Vincent Di Onifrio running with the movie in a twisted yet tragically sympathetic role.
What really makes this film worthwhile is the gorgeous vision created by director Tarsem. He had constructed pure visual poetry in every dream sequence. Even the real world scenes are done with an artistic edge.
Hands down this is one of the most visually brilliant works of art in cinema that rises above the shortcomings of a derivative script.
