After Carl has corrupted Catherine in the dream world, she is then dressed in a black lace nightgown with a red collar as his puppet. This is meant to evoke a black widow spider; further evoked when Novak enters Carl's mind, she distracts him with a kiss whilst Carl incapacitates him.
