Review of The Cell (2000) by Franzhcritic — 29 Oct 2019
It's the usual style over substance from 'The Cell'. I won't deny the visuals and atmosphere present a visceral experience that helps its audience delve into the subconscious. That is the intent, and it is done well.
But in terms of story and characters, there seems to be a lot missing, with the exception of D'Onofrio, a consistent favorite of mine, and Lopez, who is the only other character with any real depth. The additional crime thriller b-plot could have been done a lot better.
Great direction and cinematography, mediocre writing and casting (save for D'Onofrio).
