Review of The Cell (2000) by Samuel L — 18 Dec 2010
The Cell is a maddening and extremely strange science fiction thriller from Director Tarsem Singh. A movie that literally dives deep into the mind and the psychology of an extremely disturbed schitzophrenic serial killer. It's an intensely visual mind trip that is sure to play games with your head. A surreal, kinetic, optical, and super odd optical paradise that is quite disturbing at times, disturbing but entertaining at the same time. The visuals will hypnotize you, and the story provides plenty of suspenseful tension, a pulse-pounding nail biter to say the least.
Jennifer Lopez is good in her role, and Vince Vaughn, in one of the earlier performances in his career, is great throughout. Vincent D' Onofrio plays the serial killer to a disturbing perfection.
The Cell provides some dazzling psychological action sequences that are vividly disturbing, intensely visual, and mind numbing. It's a great thriller that provides nail biting action from start to finish.
