Review of The Cave (2005) by Nathan H — 02 Dec 2007
A lame mix-and-match of "The Descent," "Pitch Black," "Alien," "Alien vs. Predator" (really), and (unfortunately) "Reign of Fire." This movie seems to pick what pieces from those films looked the coolest, but completely forgets to develop characters or interest in any storyline save for "Creatures hunt humans.".
Because we don't care about the humans, and because we don't really see the creatures (and also because the humans seem to immediately accept the monsters' presence and go straight into "We know exactly what we're fighting, and we know exactly how to combat these things" mode without any sort of shock or awe at the existence of real, live monsters), you have to keep reminding yourself that there's danger, and that you should care.
"The Cave" is a pale comparison, indeed, of all those other films from which it steals.
