(1956) The Catered Affair.
DRAMA/ COMEDY.
If you've seen many Bette Davis movies, since she's often portrayed as sometimes wealthy and deceitful, Ernest Borgnine would be remembered playing many bad guy roles, or often violent, then this one would be a movie that's out of there territory, and it is a fresh change too. Adapted from the teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky, they play long time husband, Tom Hurley and wife, Mrs. Agnes Hurley couple who had just been informed that their daughter, Jane Hurley(Debbie Reynolds) is going to get married with the custom of them footing the bill. Except that there's just one problem, and that is that Jane's dad, Tom was hoping to use that money he had saved, to purchase his own cab.
You know, with all of that sex and violence that exists in many movies these days most of the time, it's nice to see everyday average people viewers can relate to about, without resorting someone getting killed in the process. Civilize arguments can just be as entertaining as abnormal ones, I'm just saying.
3 out of 4 stars.
