Review of The Carpetmaker Girl (1953) by John C — 08 Jan 2011

There is a wonderfully funny idea at the center of this. Unfortunately, you have to wait an agonozing 45 minutes in order to get to this good idea. And then, once you've been there, it doesn't really take the idea and run with it in a way that's compelling or funny to watch.

At the 90 minute mark (where admittedly it makes one of the most outrageous plot turns I've seen a farce take), it just implodes into a situation that's completely unfunny, spurning whatever good will I had for the film up until that point.
