Review of The Captive (2014) by Michael W — 08 Sep 2014
Mixed feelings. The Captive is a Canadian Telafilm movie, which reminds of the grade B 1980's Telafilm's like Scanners. The director made a cold Canadian environment with dreary winter shots. The Captive's characters are even colder than the harsh winter, with blunt direct dialog.
(Reminds me of Swedish style cinema) What works for The Captive is Ryan Reynolds strong performance, and a few heart pounding scenes. (The trees scene stands out) What did not work. Regrettably, The Captive's story dragged, and had a few big lapses in the middle.
There were a few lose ends at the ends, which left the viewer bewildered. Could have been made better. 2 stars.
