Review of The Cannonball Run (1981) by Matthew T — 10 Jul 2009
Fun film that knows exactly what it is and thats why it works. There are some ridiculous stunts like Burt Reynolds landing an airplane down main street to pick up some beer, or Terry Bradshaw driving a car into a pool to lose some cops.
As well as some spoofing of stereotypes and characters associated with the actors like Roger Moore playing a man who thinks he is Roger Moore and drives an Aston Martin and caries a toy Walter PPK and Jackie Chan who just manages to do something that doesn't happen in any other Jackie Chan film: split his pants while doing a high kick.
Everyone seems to be having fun in this film and that definitely shows through and makes the film more enjoyable than perhaps it should be. It really should only be a three star film but for nostalgic and fun sake I bump it up to 4.
