Review of The Calling (2014) by Sugarfall S — 21 Aug 2014
TOPHER's "Eric foreman" mannerisms et al can't help but squeeze through every fumbling role he's gotten after IN GOOD COMPANY (which you should see). But the real scene-stealer is Sarandon who's finally found a role she's not self-aggrandizing and therefore watches like an oscar performance.
The eerie story is predictable but saved by Sarandon herself and the motif/atmosphere created by its director as he plods through the deep creep in a small town rife with potential for murder and suicide.
Sutherland was somewhat wasted on this movie but always a joy to watch. The religious overtones are disturbing to say the least and the final scene left for interpretation but overall worth watching. Thanks Susan.
..wish you would have done this 20 years ago.
