Review of The Call (2013) by Alex M — 27 Jul 2013
While The Call is consistently thrilling and suspenseful for its relatively short running time, it also feels very sloppy. There are just so many parts of the plot that seem improbable, and so many moments when you wonder why the characters did what they did.
It doesn't really take away from the thrills, but it makes you constantly question the decisions the writer took. Besides that, it's really just an average kidnapping flick. Halle Barry does a fine job as the lead, but most everyone else was pretty forgettable (even Abigail Breslin's character, who was damsel in distress for the entire movie).
It was rarely ever boring, so I'll give it points for that, but it has too many problems to truly be a great movie.
