Review of The Call (2013) by Joe W — 20 Oct 2013
A very surprising and somewhat satisfying effort from WWE Studios. The only real problem with this movie is that the third and final act is about as believable as some of their weekly produced wrestling show story lines.
This thriller works perfectly, so much so that you are at the end of your seat until the end. I found myself having a very odd watching experience, as I uncharacteristically yelled at the TV "Do This!" or "Don't do that! It wrapped up as Berry's character, the self-depreciating 911 operator, takes matters into her own hands in unintentionally comical ways. They make the LAPD look like a squad of Mallcops. I'm not saying they are the best of the best, but they want me to believe at the end that they have absolutely no investigative or tactical training which is obviously not the case. This ruins the movie for me.
Still, the lead up is fantastic, making it worth a watch. Rent this one for date night.
