Review of The Cake Eaters (2007) by Jess M — 13 Oct 2009
So, there Isn't really a point to this movie. But, there is an extremely decent topic, which is degenerative diseases and how it affects a person. Kristen Stewart finally does something different and challenging, rather than her ever so popular 'deer in the head lights' stare with her little lip quiver thing going on.
This film has emotion and humor and keeps it at a decent balance. It easily could have tipped down the downer tube, but it stayed afloat and wasn't completely depressing. One major complaint is that the ending was really unsatisfying.
Having Kristen Stewart walk down her school hallway, which was painfully long, wasn't the best choice to end the movie. Overall this is a really nice directorial debut of Mary Stuart Masterson, and a really nice boost in Stewart career as well.
