Review of The Caine Mutiny (1954) by Larry D — 02 Mar 2008
Bogart's performance is the element that keep this movie burning in your brain after it's over. Fred MacMurray and Van Johnson also score with textured performances for complex characters. I only wish Hollywood hadn't imposed the sub plot about the rookie sailor's love life... and, even more offensive, they took the ethnicity and drunken, brutal frankness out of Greenwald's last tirade! But Dmytryk was always great with this kind of material. He always knew that the REAL drama came, not from "action sequences," but from a good close up on a face under pressure!
Was "I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me" written specifically for this movies???
