Review of The Caine Mutiny (1954) by Barry R — 17 Oct 2011
Better than I remembered it, although some of the set pieces (May Wynn in the nightclub, Mommy at the pier) play stilted -- but you gotta give it its time and place. Early salvo in Hollywood's treatment of clinical psychoses (it hadn't advanced much by 1960 and "Psycho"), and I remember how shocking it was back then to see a character, an authority figure (and Bogey no less) reveal his crazyness.
At the time it was made, Richard Nixon was still only Vice-President and not yet the life that would come to imitate this art.
