Review of The Cable Guy (1996) by John W — 30 Apr 2012
I just got off of reviewing LAST ACTION HERO and decided to go to the other film that automatically spring to mind when I think the term "Underrated Comedy". Mostly hated at the time for it's very dark tone compared to Carrey's other work, but if you like black comedy than this is a fine film.
Carrey gives a great out of type performance as the demented cable guy named Chip. Being both creepy and hilarious. While certainly not a serious film by any means there is even a little more weight to Carrey's character given his upbringing than many of his other comedic roles, at least at the time this was released.
If you can take some darkness with your laughs than I recommend it. Like LAST ACTION HERO it isn't one of the greatest comedies ever, but I would say it is one of the most underrated.
