Review of The Cable Guy (1996) by Vickie T — 07 Jan 2013
When you think of Jim Carrey, you usually think of movies like this. This is what he's known for, going absolutely crazy. If that's what your looking for then you will probably enjoy this one. I it's not, I suggest you stay away.
Jim Carrey is one of Hollywood's most versatile actors. He can shine in his comedic (Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar) and in his dramatic roles (Eternal Sunshine, The Truman Show), and this was one of his shining roles as a comedic actor.
I thought he was great in this movie and I think that this movie is great. Say what you will about this film but it's doing something different. It's incredibly original. I think its a really interesting blend of black comedy and actually, some thrills.
The story about a deranged cable guy who develops a psychotic fixation on one of his trusted customers is more than interesting and (you wouldn't know from that) hilarious. Strange and creative idea, with good performances from its cast, and an awesome ending make this a great movie.
This isn't one hat peaks early, it develops and then hit you big at the end, and that's great. I really like this film and I'll go to the extent to call it a cult-classic. Highly recommend it.
