I'd love to give this another chance. There are some real piss-yourself-laughing moments in here and Carrey is refreshingly dark. Plus, it's directed by Ben Stiller and written by Judd Apatow. I think this got a raw deal back in the day.
Wouldn't surprise me if it were deemed a classic in the future. I'd have to see it again to make that call for myself.
