Review of The Cable Guy (1996) by James H — 30 May 2010
This might be the most underrated movie of all time. To date, it's still my favorite Jim Carrey flick, and it's still a movie that I pull out 2-3 times a year for another look-see. In this one, Carrey plays a character who is never named, pseudo-stalking Matthew Broderick in a relationship that many see as the definition of twisted friendship.
As per usual with Carrey's earlier movies, the movie is also infinitely quotable, what with the Cable Guy's patented lisp, the karaoke and Medieval Times scenes, etc. - but underneath its surface, you'll find a movie that's a compelling metaphor for people who watch too much TV, and the dangers that media obsession entails.
